Bexar County Sheriff
Incumbent - Javier Salazar (D): Sheriff Salazar was sworn into office in 2017. Prior to being elected, Sheriff Salazar served with the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) for twenty-three years. He joined SAPD at the age of 21 and first worked as a patrolman and later was one of the first members of the Community Policing Unit known as the San Antonio Fear Free Environment (S.A.F.F.E.) Unit. Salazar received his Bachelor's Degree from Wayland Baptist University and holds a Master's Peace Officer License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Nathan Buchanan (R): Buchanan is a lifelong resident of Bexar County. He started his law enforcement career as a Castle HIlls patrol officer in 2008. County Commissioner Precinct 1
Incumbent - Rebeca Clay-Flores (D): Commissioner Clay-Flores spent 15 years serving in education and nonprofits, from teaching fifth grade and GED/ESL in San Antonio to starting a small educational nonprofit. She taught English in Tampico, Mexico at the state university, and worked at a small private university in Tennessee. Immediately prior to stepping into the Commissioner role, Clay-Flores worked 6 years for the city of San Antonio. Lina Prado (R): Prado is Senior Supply Chain Leader serving a portfolio across various states, and leading over 100 employees in the execution of materials. She manages multiple contracts. She is also the co-founder of a local nonprofit with the mission to give students here in Bexar County access to education in aviation-based careers. She started her career as an aircraft mechanic. County Commissioner Precinct 3
Incumbent - Grant Moody (R): Prior to being elected County Commissioner, Moody served in leadership roles at USAA and Valero. Moody served 10 years on active duty as a Marine pilot with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and he continues to serve as a LtCol in the Marine Reserves. Moody attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. He earned a master’s degree from Texas A&M University. Susan Korbel (D): Thirty five years ago, Dr. Korbel founded Core Research, a small business which conducts consumer, voter, and business-to-business research. Dr. Korbel works with many South Texas businesses and charitable organizations and assist with their strategic and tactical planning. Dr. Korbel was formerly a Board member of the San Antonio Community Resources Directory and an Alamo Community College District trustee. Prior to founding Core Research, she worked in various media roles at KLRN/U, KENS-TV, and KWEX.
